By now, I’m sure most of you are aware of Hank Williams, Jr.’s comments on Fox News show “Fox and Friends” this (Monday) morning.
“While Hank Williams, Jr. is not an ESPN employee, we recognize that he is closely linked to our company through the open to Monday Night Football. We are extremely disappointed with his comments, and as a result we have decided to pull the open from tonight’s telecast.”
“All My Rowdy Friends” has been part of Monday Night Football since 1991, then on ABC.
On “Fox and Friends,” Williams said he thought Speaker of the House John Boehner playing golf with President Obama “would be like Hitler playing golf with (Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin) Netanyahu …with the shape this country is in?” His comments are in reference to Boehner and Obama’s golf outing during June’s national budget debate, calling it, “one of the worst political mistakes ever.”
Anchor Brian Kilmeade did not understand the analogy. Williams told him, “I’m glad you don’t, brother, because a lot of people do. They’re the enemy… Obama and Biden. Are you kidding? The Three Stooges.”
later in the interview, anchor Gretchen Carlson told Williams he used the name of one of history’s most hated men to describe the President.
“Well that’s true. But I’m telling you like it is,” Williams said.
Williams, from Tennessee, says he plans to run for the US Senate in 2012 as a Republican.
Some of us have strong opinions and are often misunderstood. My analogy was extreme – but it was to make a point. I was simply trying to explain how stupid it seemed to me – how ludicrous that pairing was. They’re polar opposites and it made no sense. They don’t see eye-to-eye and never will. I have always respected the office of the President.
Warning! Profanity to Follow
Are you fucking kidding me!?!!?! Ok, so I didn’t give much warning.
I don’t normally agree with anything ESPN does or says, but in this case the network is dead on. Why the hell would you want someone like that representing one of your most widely known products?
Hank Williams, Jr. compares Barack Obama to Adolf Hitler… I know some Right-Wingers think it is ok to throw around stupid-assed comments like that, but seriously comparing an African American President of the United States of America to one of the most hated men in the history of the world? A man who was directly responsible for 11-17 million deaths.
Honestly, why do so many right-wingers think making such absurd and outrageous comparisons are acceptable? I hear comparisons of everyday mundane situations compared to manslaughter, murder, rape, etc. These are ALWAYS made by right wingers. Sad, really.
I hope Tennessee residents are more intelligent than that… No way in hell should this guy be elected!
