Tony Dungy’s Top NFL Head Coaching Candidates

Tony’s top three head coaching candidates:

  1. Jay Gruden, Offensive Coordinator, Cincinnati Bengals
  2. Mel Tucker, Interim Head Coach, Jacksonville Jaguars
  3. Chip Kelly, Head Coach, Oregon Ducks

What are your thoughts on these 3 as head coach for the Kansas City Chiefs?

  • These are all guys I hadn’t thought about.

I don’t know much about Mel Tucker.

I really like what Jay Gruden has done with all the young offensive players in Cincy.

Chip Kelly is interesting, he seems to win and win with under-talented players. Getting the most out of players is huge in the NFL… Would he bring the signs to the NFL, when calling plays?!?

  • I don’t like the Chip Kelly idea much. He is great because of his up tempo spread system and because he is a great recruiter. Those don’t translate well to the NFL. I feel like the Chiefs don’t need another experimental new coach. It is time for a proven winner and successful coach to take the foundation that has been built and build upon it.

  • Of the 3, I like Jay Gruden best.

  • Travis, I agree. I actually had Jay Gruden and Brian Schottenheimer on my short list of sleepers. More Schottenheimer than Gruden, because he just signed a one year extension with the Jets. Not that it really matters, but I have a feeling that whatever the Chiefs do, Pioli knows he’s got one more chance to do this right and he just might make a splash.
