Javier Arenas, Kansas City Chiefs

Three Things: Chiefs vs. Eagles

The New Arrowhead is set to make its preseason debut tonight against the Philadelphia Eagles. Here are your Three Things:

1. Todd Haley has said the starters will play into the third quarter. This is going to give us a good acid test of what this team is really going to be capable of in 2010. The first string offense looked impressive against Tampa Bay last week, but has struggled overall in the preseason and training camp. With an extended look at the offense, we are going to get to see more plays and probably what the Kansas City Chiefs‘ offensive scheme is going to look like throughout the year. But the Eagles defense is a rock solid group and the Chiefs offensive unit is going to have their hands full.

2. Javier Arenas. The Eagles sport one of the best kick coverage teams in the NFL. Arenas has been the most dazzling of the Chiefs rookies in the preseason and it is only a matter of time until he breaks one. He’s had a great kick return in each of the preseason games so far, one for a touchdown that was called back on a holding penalty. I think he’s due and I’m looking for some fireworks out of Javier tonight.

3. Improvement from the defense. It seems the Chiefs are getting closer to the quarterback this year, but still can’t finish off sacks. Tamba Hali has looked good, as well as Andy Studebaker and Wallace Gilberry on the pass rush. Kevin Kolb is a younger quarterback and if the Chiefs can get in his face, it would go a long way in disrupting the passing game.

Enjoy the game!

  • Into the 3rd quarter? Yikes! That doesn't sound like a good idea but that gives us a lot of quasi-meaningful football to watch today.

  • Studie is really making a case to force the Chiefs coaches to put him on the bench… Andy has been a fan fave for a while now… After his play tonight in pre-season game 3 (the only PS game that really matters), he is really going to make it tought to make the Chiefs bench him!
