There was a buzz going around Kansas City about a few different events that happened these past few days.
1. Lew Perkins resigned immediately last week amid controversy surrounding Kansas’ athletic department.
2. Kansas City Chiefs President Denny Thum, who had been with the team for over 35 years, suddenly resigned and created quite a stir in Kansas City.
A source close to the situation made it known to myself earlier this evening that Thum had resigned because of the recent vacancy of the Kansas University Athletic Director position.
This has not been confirmed by any means, but this source was adamant that Denny Thum will be taking the position in the very near future.
Chiefs Command will bring you more details as they surface.

Wow. if this is true, big scoop.
Waiting on confirmation. Source really seemed to believe that this was happening.
Must be his dream job. I don't know why you give up being the president of the Chiefs at his age. He rode out the storm.

thats a bold move, if you ask me.
Hmm. I've been burned by sources on the KU beat before, so hopefully this doesn't happen to you. But hey, Thum has a history of helping get fans and taxpayers to pay for capital improvement projects. However, when it comes to hiring coaches, that's where things will get interesting.
I have no doubt he can handle the day-to-day operations of running an athletic department from the CEO side. The personnel side is where I'm interested to see how he does.

The personnel side? I'm not a KU fan at all, but I think KU is pretty much set with their coaches in the ONLY two collegiate sports that generate revenue for the school.

The next KU AD will likely be a person with Big 10, Big East, ACC, SEC, Mountain West or Pac-10 connections.
I don't know if Thum has any of those connections, but I believe he is tied in with Penn State in some way.
