Nick’s Chiefs Briefs: Week 10

That was an astonishingly bad game that the Chiefs of Kansas City played in this week.  Raise your hand if you watched it all?  I’m keeping my hand down.  I honestly had a whole lot more interesting things to do on Sunday than watch the festering crap that was on CBS.  From the very beginning it was clear that the game was going to get out of hand and there was nothing the Chiefs could do about it.  Either way, I still looked around the innernets for interesting things regarding the Chiefs.  So lets light up a cigar, open a leather bound book and get in our Briefs.

  • Let’s get this out of the way first.  Todd Haley snubbed the Denver Broncos head coach in the post-game handshake.  The takeaway?  Todd Haley is a raging asshole.  But didn’t we already know that?  If he wins football games it can be tolerated, when he doesn’t — well, it exudes classlessness.  I’m a fan of Haley’s aggressive nature on the field, but I absolutely detest his personality otherwise.

.

.

  • The Chiefs have lost four out of their last six games.  Suddenly they look like a 6-10 or 7-9 team.  I don’t think anyone can actually predict this team in the playoffs after losing the last two weeks to teams in the AFC West.  I know that they are still in first place, but they are sliding and I believe their true talent is showing itself.  I had some high hopes like most of you a couple of long weeks ago, but things are looking very bad.

.

  • Remember a couple of weeks ago when pundits were claiming the NFL was over because they were cracking down on dangerous hits?  Seems to me that very little has changed.  1. the NFL still exists and 2. its still VERY dangerous.

.

  • Brian McGannon here at Chiefs Command says “It’s time to panic“  he’s right.  And Brian, I’m still willing to watch an NHL game with you as soon as the season starts.  Just hit me up.

.

  • It’s a good thing the Chiefs passed on Randy Moss, right?  I mean now that their locker room is full of fun-time bestest of buddies they will continue to keep on winning.  Right?

.

.

  • I’ve been a big pile of negative so far this week and part of that has to do with being sick, so let’s look at a positive here shall we?  Dwayne Bowe had 186 yards and is really starting to look like an extremely good receiver.  He has 606 receiving yards in 2010 which is 17 more than he had in the eleven games he played in 2009.  He has also caught a career high 9 touchdown passes.

.

  • Sam Mellinger is doing his thing and breaking down the Chiefs.  I think we could all take something away from his article.  I’m a pessimist with this team, and they probably aren’t as bad as I think they are.

.

  • Have the Denver Broncos ever not had one of the worst uniforms in the history of sports?  I mean seriously.  Orange and blue don’t have to be a terrible color scheme, but regardless of what Denver does, it always looks bad.  Thank God I don’t have to watch that abomination of uniforms each week.  Yikes.

.

  • Forgive me if I’ve made this point before, but what, exactly is the point of the extra point?  It’s easily the most worthless thing in all of sports.  It kills the momentum of the crowd enjoying a touchdown.  They almost always make the kick, and it’s worth one point.  Why?  How much better would football be if you had to go for two points?  At least make the extra point a 40 yarder, right?  Does anyone really like the extra point?  If so, defend yourself.

.

  • The Kansas City Star pointed out that Matt Cassel put up the 2nd most passing yards in a game in Chiefs history this week.  Yes, he put up 469 yards, but I honestly don’t care.  This team won’t win as long as he is running the offense, I stand by that assessment and until I’m proven wrong I won’t budge.

.

  • I said we’d learn a lot about this team during this two game stretch and I think I was right.  Each game now takes on much more significance. Beating the Cardinals has become a very important game for the aspirations of the season.  I still think that a 7-9 season would be a wild success, so I guess I shouldn’t be so bitter right now.

.

  • This weeks Chiefs historical stat of the week: Highest Field Goal % with over 40 attempts:  Ryan Succop with 82.6% AND Morton Anderson at 82.6%.  They both are 38 of 46 as Chiefs.

  • The extra point is pointless but what was worse was not having the ability to go for 2. I am alright with it because abolishing the extra point would change the game drastically. I don’t necessarily like it but I don’t think it should be changed.

I learned something about the Chiefs in the last two games: they are worse than I thought. I know the Chiefs had a secondary crisis but they still should have won. I think the Chiefs are an average NFL team and their record will reflect it despite the schedule they were given this season.

  • Thanks for the offer to watch an NHL game with me Nick. You should be able to watch a game on your local public access channel.
