Matt Cassel and Dwayne Bowe, Kansas City Chiefs

The Chiefs are AFC West Champs

We. Fucking. Did. It.

Your Kansas City Chiefs are 2010 AFC West Champions.

Let that sink in.

For just the seventh time in franchise history, the Chiefs are division champeens.

I’m currently celebrating with a beer in hand and will probably make a champagne run sometime later this evening. It’s time to celebrate, Chiefs fans.

This was perhaps the most improbable season in Kansas City sports history. Yes, more improbable than the 2003 Kansas City Royals or 2007 Missouri Football Tigers. This was magical. An unbelievable run that started with most pundits picking the Chiefs as a 6-10 or .500 team. One guy even went as far to say the Chiefs would go 4-12.

The season started off with a huge game. Looking back, that Monday Night Football game against the Chargers was the catalyst for this season. Arrowhead was rocking and it seemed the Chiefs rode that momentum and got better each week as the season progressed. This Chiefs team in Week 17 is so much more different from that unproven, young group of players that played San Diego in Week One.

Think back to all of those games the Chiefs lost on the road to Houston, Oakland, etc. I think if we took this Week 17 Chiefs team back in time, they might actually win those games.

This team is better than it was just a few weeks ago. We just stomped the Tennessee Titans a week after stomping the St. Louis Rams. We’ve got legitimate momentum going into the last week of the season.

We’ve made the playoffs, but the season isn’t over quite yet. We’ve still got Oakland, who will be doing everything in their power to shit in our birthday cake. Hopefully the game is out of hand by halftime in our favor and we can rest our starters. I’ll be there, hope to see you guys at Arrowhead.

But here we are on Boxing Day, the Chiefs are in. In the tournament. Anything can happen. Let the doubters doubt. Let the haters hate.

Tonight, we feast.
