Some Chiefs fans rejoiced with the win over the Vikings, others like me suddenly lost hope for getting Andrew Luck in next year’s draft. This hope will shatter more with a win over the Colts this weekend. I have no doubt that the Chiefs can win this weekend because I believe the Colts are actually trying as an organization to “Suck for Luck.” Unlike a group of Chiefs fans wishing for the Stanford QB, I believe the Colts have witness how horrible a reality is without Peyton Manning, and must do whatever they can to get his successor ASAP. As of now, “Suck for Luck” is between the Colts and the Dolphins. I include the Dolphins because they decided not to sign David Garrard yesterday because they considered his $1 million asking price too much. They obviously want to lose as much as possible. They have struggled to find a franchise QB since Dan Marino retired in 2000.
OK, that was my rant on the “Suck for Luck” campaign. On to this weekend and what to expect from our Chiefs. Ryan Succop was huge last week both for the Chiefs and in fantasy; however, I wouldn’t let this performance fool you. Wait until Succop puts together a few weeks of solid kicking before considering him for active roster duty. I’ll continue to bash Matt Cassel and advise any fantasy owner to stay clear of him.
I’m still holding out hope that Dexter McCluster will emerge as a fantasy option in PPR leagues, but he isn’t getting the touches I was expecting. I’m more worried about Jackie Battle stealing his carries over Thomas Jones. For now continue to stash McCluster on your bench unless the bye week has you against a wall.
Like I’ve said before, Dwayne Bowe is the only valuable fantasy option the Chiefs have to offer. He should continue to average around five catches and 85 yards and nearly a TD a game. Continue starting Bowe every week.
I’m going to go way out on a limb here and say that the Chiefs Defense actually may be worth starting this weekend. Granted, I would only suggest this if you had no other option. The Colts offense has been sluggish and uninspired. Curtis Painter gave them a slight spark, but if the Chiefs are truly revived and focused I see them shutting down anything the Colts can muster.
