Week Six: No Longer Bye the Wayside

All of us Chiefs fans gotta feel good going into this weekend’s bye week 2-3. This club looked like the worst team in the NFL after their first two outings. Week three saw an inspired performance against the Chargers, week four showed us a team that could take a lead and hold onto it. Finally, last week Matt Cassel did something he had never done and many of us thought he would never do and that was to bring his team back and mount a fourth quarter comeback. This team is far from being in playoff contention but they can’t be left on the wayside.

Because of the bye week there are no projections for any Kansas City Chief players, however, we did learn some things over the weekend that can be useful moving forward in week seven.

Matt Cassel could be a fantasy back-up, I wouldn’t recommend this right away, but he started extremely slow last season before actually being a relevant fantasy player. I doubt he’ll throw four TDs in a game again, but if he is allowed to open the offense up and throw more he has slightly more value than before.

It only took five weeks but the Steve Breaston signing now looks to be paying off. This guy was no where the first few games of the season. He is worth grabbing now and stashing him on your bench to see if this increased productivity will continue.

There is a winner in the running back by committee battle and it is Battle, Jackie Battle. I had high fantasy hopes for Dexter McCluster but it is apparent that he can’t handle a full workload as a featured RB in the NFL. Thomas Jones had a good game Sunday, but he has little gas left in the tank and has no fantasy value. Battle is the man; right now at least, he should be unowned in many leagues so go out and get him.

Dwayne Bowe is a fantasy stud. Or at least the Chiefs fantasy stud. Bowe would be a better statistical WR is he had a better QB, but he is almost at a tier one level fantasy WR. If you own him be happy and after the bye week he should be in your lineup every weekend.

The Chiefs Defense will continue to give up 20 or more points a game and therefore have no fantasy value. If the Defense shows some improvement then they could be considered the week of the Miami game but only if you have no other option.

Ryan Succop isn’t a fantasy worthy kicker, avoid him.

After the bye we will get a chance to finally see Jon Baldwin and what he can offer for this team. I personally think he won’t be a productive contributor for the team until after week ten if at all. Therefore, he currently holds no fantasy value unless you can stash him on a deep bench or play in a dynasty league.
