Well, I was unable to get any of my favorite Kansas City Chiefs in my fantasy draft last week. I needed receiver help in the rounds Jamaal Charles and Thomas Jones were selected, and Dexter McCluster got selected before my pick in the round I wanted him in. I opted to go with Mason Crosby over Ryan Succop, just like the Chiefs should have gone with Crosby over Justin Medlock in the 2007 NFL Draft. Matt Cassel is still a free agent, but with Peyton Manning and Donovan McNabb on my roster I didn’t feel a need to add him.
Week one of the NFL starts tonight, so let the games begin! I’ll be honest, this week’s fantasy breakdown will be short and quick, not because I don’t love you, but because it is what it is… week one. There is really no need to over analyze matchups, no need to research projections, no need to question who to start or sit, you simply start your highest drafted players. If you must have nine starters in your lineup, then you start your highest drafted players in the required positions, end of story. It will take about three weeks to determine who is performing well and who is underperforming in regards to fantasy football. Therefore, relax and set your lineup with the same confidence you had when you were drafting. There should be no second guessing yourself right now, it’s week one, go with what you know. As a fantasy football veteran this is absolutely the best advice I can give you going into the first week of the NFL season.
However, I will give you what you came here for. Jamaal Charles and Dwayne Bowe are the only two Chiefs I have as must starts for this week. If Thomas Jones is your #2 RB, then start him. If Chris Chambers is your #2 or #3 WR, then start him. I would advise you see what Dexter McCluster does for a full game before inserting him into your starting lineup; however, if he is your #2 or #3 WR then go ahead and give him a chance. I wouldn’t be comfortable recommending you start any other Chiefs players for week one.
Here are the week one projections for your Kansas City Chiefs.
Matt Cassel: 235 passing yards, 1TD, 1INT
Jamaal Charles: 65 rushing yards, 4 catches for 30 yards
Thomas Jones: 45 rushing yards, 1TD
Dwayne Bowe: 5 catches for 65 yards
Chris Chambers: 3 catches for 40 yards, 1TD
Dexter McCluster: 3 catches for 35 yards
Lenard Pope: 1 catch, 10 yards
Tony Moeaki: 1 catch, 10 yards
Ryan Succop: 2/2 XP, 1/2 FG
Chiefs Special Teams/Defense: 27 points allowed, 3 sacks, 0 INT, 0 Fumbles
In the coming weeks I would like to use the second half of this post to advise you on what to do with other NFL players entering the week. I’ll give you my advice on whom to start or sit as well as other fantasy football related issues. Once again I invite you to use me as a resource as you manage your fantasy rosters. Feel free to message me about lineup questions and concerns as well as my opinion on a trade you have been offered or a trade you want to propose.
Sit back and enjoy!
